Compression test: Remove spark plugs, and prop open choke plate:
I can not imagine how testing compression, with the carburetor removed, would influence the readings, thought it best to check with knowledgeable members to confirm?
With the carb on you need to open the choke and throttle plates, without a carb would be ideal.
Jim, thank you, another confirmation, intend checking tomorrow rain or shine. The truck had sat for several years, comparing the readings taken couple months ago where a couple cylinders where just within limits; hopefully, with some mileage the readings on those cylinders will have improved??

All other things being the same, yes, that is possible. If no improvement, remember to do a dry, and then a wet test.

I do not recall reading where one continues cranking until gauge reaches optimum value; if the case, all running 135 except for #2 at 150, previous reading the values on #7 and #8 were low. Yet again stored my engine rebuild book in the attic and too lazy to fetch the ladder; I believe the readings are within limits?
