5.0 weaknesses?

I'm considering buying a one owner 2013 F150 XLT, 5.0L SMPI, 2WD, Crew cab, very clean, Located in AZ, so no rust. 106000 miles.
Out the door would just under $23,000. What do you think?
Not up on newer Ford engines. Are there any particular weaknesses of the 5.0? Is it the same as the old 289/302?
Any words of wisdom would appreciated
Thanx,
Minnjim

Some of the early 5.0L's had bad cylinder boring in the #3 and #4 cylinder's that was an issue. The fix for that is having the block replaced which is a huge job. Also, some people have complained that their 5.0L's burn about 1 to 2qt's of oil per oil change. My 2011 burned about 1qt on the very first oil change I ever did to it, however it's never burned any since. Those issue's aside though, I think they are pretty solid.

Unless that is a totally loaded truck, the price is too high.

As far as engine goes, the 13s rarely had any of the issues the 11s and early 12s had.

Sounds like a LOT of money to me for a 106K truck.
I gave just a little more for my 2013, Super Crew, 5.0, 4x4, XLT with a couple of nice option packages. And it only had 53K on it.
I'd have to do some more looking.

I agree with the others, keep looking. Too many miles on thst truck for the price they are asking.

The 5.0 is a solid engine. Mine is a 2011, has 78,000 miles, and runs like a top.

After a quick autotrader check of 100 miles of my zip 85304 I was able to find a number of trucks close in price with about half the miles. There was even a '15 I believe at Bill Luke Dodge that was close. I agree with the others $23k seems high for those miles.

Those miles are excessive and would make me think that the truck was driven and barely maintained. The engine may be solid but the whole truck is coming due for some spendy maintenance items. Keep looking brother, better deals are out there.

Agree, the price is too high. I don't know exactly how that truck is equipped, but a quick run on Kelly Blue Book has that truck at $18,000 suggested retail. They want WAY too much for it!

I totally agree with everyone else and that the asking price is waaay to high for that truck. However I will say aside from the few issues that have already been mentioned in the above posts these engines are pretty stout and relatively easy to work on. Keep in mind as well that if and when you find a truck at a Ford dealer with less then 50k miles on the clock you should be able to get the Ford Certified Pre-owned warranty. That would get you warranty coverage for it's either 5 or 7 years and 125k miles. Also to answer the last part of your question. The answer is quite simple. No. There is nothing that the Coyote 5.0 has in common with the ole Windsor block 289/302. These are a completely different animal all together. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they are each great engines in their own right. These engines are an overhead cam 3 valve modular engine with an aluminum block and heads. Where as the old 302 Windsor was an overhead valve 2 valve push rod engine with a cast iron block and heads.

It's easy to confuse them as well with an entire generation of 3-valve engines.
