Smile 5.0 oil usage

When my 2013 4x4 lariat was new it used about a half a quart of oil during the first 3000 miles. Then I changed the oil, and it used another half quart for the next 3000 miles. Then I noticed something good , the oil usage got less and less. Now with 23000 miles and 6000 miles into its most recent oil change, not a drop of oil usage. By the way I switched to pennzoil ultra at 6000 miles. Just want to share this. I was told by the dealer that these engines take a little while to break in and that oil usage early on is common. As for the the truck, OMG this thing rocks, absolutely love it. The V8 is great, lots of power, comfortable ride, so far best vehicle I have ever owned, absolutely flawless, thank you Ford. Also just paid it off so it is all mine.

I think you made a very wise choice with the 5.0. Have been reading in this forum and 3.5 Ecoboost forum about problems with that engine...feel sorry for all the people having problems after paying all that money for their trucks. Hope Ford steps up to the plate and makes this situation right.
I had been thinking about getting an F-150 with EB but now it would definitely be the 5.0

Out of curiosity...what made you decide for the 5.0L over the egoboost?

Always been a V8 guy. Had turbos in past and not a fan. Imo I believe the V8 will be more durable and less problematic.

I had to look at this post, just purchased a 5.0 F150. All my buds have ecoboost trucks. I have to be the blacksheep.

After reading in this forum and 3.6 EB forum, it is pretty clear that there are some problems with this engine and from what I've read, Ford doesn't seem to want to admit it.
You have a beautiful truck and I hope you do not encounter some of the problems mentioned in these forums.

Approaching 70k on my '11 5.0 and it uses about 2qts during one OCI (approx 8500 miles, based on IOLM).

Currently 27k miles on truck. ~5k OCI. I check level about every 500-1000 miles. Hasn't used any oil at all.

That's about what mine uses. My 2011 5.0 only has about 32,000 on it. I'm using Pennzoil synthetic blend. After the first change at 3000, I've been changing between 9-10,000 miles.

5.0L here as well...it just rocks!
As for oil, running whatever the dealer put in when I bought the truck ( used) last month so I assume Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W20, also has a Motorcraft oil filter. I have two 5L jugs of Pennzoil Platinum synthetic 5W20 and a Napa Gold ( Wix) filter on the shelf in the garage...kind of looking forward to doing my first oil change on this rig.

Just something about a V8 in a pick up that just feels and sounds right.

2012 157" wb Super Crew Lariat. 5.0 Coyote. 3.55 limited slip.
My 1st oil change was at 5000 miles and at that point I went to Mobil One full synthetic and started with 10,000 mile OCI's. I'm currently have just shy of 62,000 miles. Oil added between changes varies but has never approached half a quart. Negligible compared against the OCI length. The computer averages my fuel mileage on trip computer #2 at 19.2 for those 62,000 miles. I feel the computer is pretty close, having checked against it for the early part of the trucks life.

I believe Ford knocked one out of the park with this engine.

Power.
Fuel Economy.
Sound.
Smoothness.
At 62,000 miles it may be a bit early to add longevity to the list, but nothing to this point tells me anything other than it's going to be around for a while.

Thanks Jack! I tend to not worry too much about some things until it happens. (depending on the issue) So far the EGOboost has been reliable for me and I have a bunch of fun driving it everyday. I was REALLY close to just buying the 5.0L Platinum but decided to wait and see if I could find the truck I wanted with the EGOboost instead. Low and behold my dealer ended up getting the exact truck I was looking for and the sales manager I go through for purchasing didn't even know he had it on the lot! (I did a random search of trucks in the area after doing my truck build for the billionth time ) Some of the guys here can contest I waited for about a year and a half until finding my truck!
