if the transmission shifts at a higher rpm when in tow mode, then the turbo is also spooled up higher for when the transmission shifts to the next gear you have more power in the next gear, and I've noticed this difference.... correct me if my thinking is wrong....
Any chance that when you don't have tow/haul engaged, it actually starts in 2nd?
The truck can be started out in 2nd by selecting "2" with the shifter and I believe the transmission can be started in second by selecting manual mode and shifting to second. In the past many generations of Ford automatics there was always a second gear. The first I remember was on our '66 Mustang. Sometimes "drive 2", sometimes "low2" or similar names. It helps when starting in slippery conditions by lowering the torque by decreasing the gear ratio. A good tool very few people know to use.
