Do you guys use the tow/haul every time you tow or just on grades?
We tow a 4h PB horse trailer (about 23ft and 4500lbs dry) and another 3K to 5.5k for horse (2, 3 or 4) and some extra 200-300lbs of tack/water: so between 7.5K and 10K loads
My wife uses it all the time we tow the horse trailer, I mostly only use it on hills.
Aside from shift points, do any other functions/parameters change when the tow/haul is engaged?
As far as I know it just changes how the transmission shifts into higher gears to keep it from bogging down climbing hills. And from switching in and out of overdrive goin down the interstate. I pull a 12,000 pound camper and rarely use it but if anybody else has more info it would be interesting to hear.
I tow horse trailers between 3k and 10k. At first I didn't use tow/ haul much, now I use it whenever I haul. In my opinion it makes the towing smoother and easier at not much of an expense.
If nothing else the engine braking gives the horses a better ride and makes things a little safer.
i was aware of that and indeed it does work really well.
You didn't mention. Only thing you mentioned specifically was shift points in your original post.

That's due to the changing of the shift points. It is able to hold gears longer and keep you in it's peak TQ range longer, thus keep power longer which is why I'm thinking that you think there is more power.
I would recommend it always with any real type of load. Shift points longer, less gear hunting and the assistance with stopping are invaluable. It can still get decent mileage and go into the highest gear possible if conditions allow.
ECT, TFT, and EOT I've noticed are higher when running in tow/haul mode versus when I'm not running in tow/haul mode. I've made several trips(same destinations) with roughly the same ambient temps(within 2-3 degrees), with the same load in the trailer and same load in the truck(full tank, one pass., all other fluids I tried to similate as close as I could), same PCM program as well(my version of the tow program), and as best as I could same speed as well(no more then 2 mph difference due to one hill in particular it's hard to get up without being bogged down when not in tow/haul mode).
