E250 side door bolt/pin problem

E250 side door bolt/pin problem
This new (to me) van (1985, E250 Super Cargo) has the double door entrance on the passenger side. The problem is that the rear door won't close all the way, because the pin, or bolt, on the bottom of the door, won't retract and therefore just bangs into the side of the strike plate. Trying to push it up manually, while moving the lever doesn't help at all.
Is this a familiar problem to anyone? any hints before I get started on taking the door apart?

I just took it to an RV place for a basic inspection, and the tech was nice enough to fix it for me! Said a part was bent.
Seems not unlikely that it could happen again, so thanks very much for the pics, they should come in handy! Did you scan those yourself or is the whole reference guide available somewhere?

I would also suggest a electrical, vacuum, trouble shooting manual too.

You might find them a little cheaper if you look around, I just did a search and through you the first one.. The shop manual on cd is a little hard to learn to use compared to paper books but is much cheaper..
I recommend both as they compliment each other
