Door Adjustment
My drivers side door is sagging a bit with old age and won't close completely without slamming it. How do I adjust it so that it closes? Can it be reshimmed or does it need new hinges?

first I looked at the door to see where it needed to be adjusted. In my case the end of the door that is closest to the bed needed to come up. I then loosened the nuts where the hinges attach to the door. I then had my son manuever the door to where it needed to be, then tightened the nuts. You can do this with cinder blocks and shims just the same. Then, I removed the striker bolt on the door jam using a T50. I took it off a put a sleeve over the bolt. You can get these gray sleeves from the "Help" section of most any auto parts store. I then reinstalled the striker bolt, but not all the way tight. I then closed the door. Doing this adjusts the striker bolt. I then opened the door, then I moved the loosened striker bolt closer to the interior of the truck; since when I opened the door, the striker bolt slides towards the exterior of the truck. I then tightened striker bolt. Then tested. Voila! problem solved. I recommend after the test, reopen door and look at the new gray sleeve/bushing you add to the striker bolt, and see the marks the door latch leaves to get an idea of your striker adjustment, then adjust accordingly.
I have done this on several vehicles of various types and makes in the past, and it has always worked for me. I suspect that alot of people unecessarily replace the hinge pin. I have never replaced a hinge pin before.
Good luck, and please post results. We don't know if a particular fix works unless people post results, and to me it can be flustrating!
