I know the "books and guides" say they can not be added after build, but has anyone actually taken a look yet. My son who has been burning up the net looking for a truck has found the almost perfect one but no switches.
I ended up taking this fall too, ended up getting a truck with everything I wanted except the switches, instead I ended up with a upfiter interface module! It's messed up, I don't even have the pto! I plan to install them myself in the future with the switch replacement part and my own relays
ANYTHING is possible with the right funds! What Ford is saying is that they aren't allowing the dealers to make the change. My guess is the entire wiring harness is different but who knows. The physical bank of switches and the overhead section holding them I'm sure can be bought from Ford, then take to a reputable auto electric shop and they can run the necessary wiring out and into a relay bank under the hood or anywhere you would want it. It will function the exact same but will not be done by Ford. You will also have the option of changing the amperage etc etc in doing it this way. Unfortunately it will be at a substantial cost increase over the factory option. Wish you the best with it.
Also, not sure if the up fitter switches added the 2nd alternator option or not but I have 2 alternators and didn't order it that way.

The alternator is upgraded to extra heavy duty with the factory upfitter switches.
nice setup but a little on the pricey side, with a little know how and $50 you could probably do the same thing, more if you plan to order the ford switches, the relay won't be as compact but there's space for that, probably where the factory box would go

I got the second Alternator when I specified the rapid heat auxiliary cab heater.
