test continuity between fuse and cluster

test continuity between each plug at circuit board and corresponding pigtail/harness does that make sense? does power make it thru the plug basically

test voltage at each location as well

the thing about continuity is you can have good continuity but fail under load just something to keep in mind

Lets see if Yahiko can help us I send a PM

Right now I can't get at the PDFs that I need to help with this.
One thing worth looking at would be the 2 connectors at the top
of the cluster to look for any broken wires. They are very small wires
and could break.

beat up batteries

I pulled both batteries last night and threw them on the charger and showed issues with them. I think they been beat up pretty hard over the last couple of months. I'm taking them to the battery store to see if they can be replaced under warranty as they came with the truck and are only 4 months old.

Depending on battery decision, it may be 24 hours (testing) before I can get them back into the truck so it may take me a day or to to get new results back.

I've inspected the BLUE and BLACK connectors (several times) on top of instrument cluster and didn't see any thing obvious. They look pretty good to me.

Original alternator was replaced after being pulled for no charge scenario when tested at battery during KOER and failed testing at local parts store (Oriley's). Current alternator is NEW direct OEM replacement 110A.

RE: testing continuity between Instrument cluster and connectors, I think I understand what you are asking. It may take me a bit to locate all the correct connectors. All I have to go off of at this time is the instrument cluster diagram that I got from Circuitboard Medics, doesn't show end points just general notations of affected systems.

I will do my best to try and inspect the wiring harness around turbo tonight.

IF I can get the batteries back today, I will put everything back together as designed, clear codes, go for a drive and see if I can pull codes from either TorquePro or FORscan.

I REALLY appreciate both of you for your time and effort.
Mike

Unfortunately there's no easy path to get through this. It's just checking and rechecking. When checking continuity or voltage, just be sure to move the cabling that normally has some movement or has been manually moved. If there is a break in a wire, a certain position may make contact, and a move open it up.

I'll try and setup a laptop later to get the connector PDFs for you.
They have the pin numbers and the designations. That should help.

Don't tell the battery place that you got the truck with the batteries in it.
They tend to not want to transfer the warrantees to a new owner.
I found this out the hard way.

EDIT : Did a little thinking and wanted to ask. Do you have anyone near
you that has access to a VCM2/IDS? That would show if the cluster is
turning the charge circuit on or not.

Here are the PDFs from the Ford Workshop Manual 2005.
Hope that they help you out.

What do this notations represent on the diagram? Are these points that I can use to test various points along the wiring route?

the Cxxx is a connector and the Gxxx that is not in your example would be grounds.
Lit me see if I still have a key I can post for you.

I can't find it. I post it when I get back from the Doctors office later tonight.
I did find this one that may be helpful later. It's a connector repair procedure.

They are connector reference numbers. Here's a list.

Last I checked the OP has a 2006. Not 05. So it should be the same unlike the info for a 2005.
So I guess you should ask yourself how well does your supplied info cross over to his 2006?

Did he switch years somewhere that I missed?

Sean I don't know where you are getting that screenshot. Here's the screen shot post #1 clearly states 2006.

I am going by his signature.
Looks like he is a bit confused as to the year.

Seems that the signature was added later and it says 2005.

So lets see if he can enlighten us as to what year.
