I'm fixing to swap a 240 ci to a 352 and want to install headers. From what I've read on here you have to unbolt the engine from the motor mounts and jack it up to make room for installation? Is it feasible to put the headers on prior to engine install and put it all in together?
Seem to recall the issue is with the starter motor, had to lift engine slightly to insert the headers, do not believe there would be an issue if installed beforehand, may be a bit tight? Suggest setting the engine in place, check to ensure the collectors clear the engine cross member, steering box; particularly if it's a Bendix, the transmission or clutch linkage?
Unfortunately, I do not know the brand of long tube header's the previous owner installed in my 65, it has a 1964 390ci, believe the motor mounts are different than later model mounts, manual Ford steering box, 3 speed w/ O.D., and there are no issue regarding clearance.
I have a set of Sanderson short headers. They both drop in with no problem and good clearance. The right side from above and the left side from below. No unbolting the engine and the starter is not an issue, especially if its a compact starter.

The OP was questioning wether the new engine with headers would go in at the same time already bolted up.

The OP had a question regarding that he heard you had to unbolt the engine from the mounts and jack it up to install headers. I addressed that, stating my experience with the Sandersons. To speak directly to the other question, I would prefer to install without the headers....only my personal opinion, because you would risk hanging or banging the headers on the motor mounts during installation.
