I have seen numerous posts about our 2005/6 TCB problem about it doesn't start working until you reach a certain speed... and I keep hearing that installing a 2007 module will fix the problem. After trying to find one of these modules I keep seeing them but they all say 2005-2007 fits.
My question is, what P/N should I be looking for? Are there different numbers for the 2005 ,and 2007? Can anyone tell me what the 2007 module P/N is? And if you know that, do you know if you can hold the brakes on an attached RV at ZERO MPH with that module installed?
Last question about this: If I install this 2007 module do I need my truck (2005) computer reflashed to accommodate the 2007 unit?
I'm guessing you saw this:
8630 2005 SUPER DUTY F-SERIES - NORMAL OUTPUT VOLTAGE FOR A MANUAL APPLY FROM THE FORD TRAILER BRAKECONTROLLER - SERVICE TIP
THE VOLTAGE OUTPUT FOR MANUAL TRAILER BRAKE APPLICATION FROM THE FACTORY INSTALLED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER ON 2005 F-SUPER DUTY VEHICLES IS IN TWO DIFFERENT RANGES, BASED ON BUILD DATE. THE NORMAL OUTPUT VOLTAGE FOR A FULL MANUAL APPLY (MANUAL ACTIVATOR LEVER SLID FULLY TO THE LEFT, GAIN SETTING OF 10, VEHICLE NOT MOVING) IS 1-3 VOLTS ON VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 3/23/05, AND IS GREATER THAN 10 VOLTS ON VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 3/23/05. BRAKE PEDALBASED OUTPUT FROM THE CONTROLLER IS THE SAME REGARDLESS OF BUILD DATE. DO NOT REPLACE THE CONTROLLER IF IT IS PROVIDING VOLTAGE OUTPUT IN THE CORRECT RANGE BASED ON BUILD DATE. REFER TO SECTION 206-10 OF THE WORKSHOP MANUAL FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 05/26/2005
According to my father his 06 works any speed. I haven't verified that. If you're replacing the control module with a donor from say ebay or something, ask the seller to supply you with the tenth digit of the donor vehicle. That will tell you the year. If he doesn't know then I'd skip it.
Or go to a u-pull it yard and try to find one.
I never looked but I would think with IDS the module should be able to be reflashed, but I don't know.
If you do obtain a used one and want to check what version software it has, Forscan laptop version will tell you the software release date. Obviously you want the newest. As you can see I too have the old version where the brakes are barely applied below 10m.p.h.
I don't know the answer to your question but the post 05 part number I've seen as a replacement is 6C3Z-2C006-AA. If you do it, please post your results. I'm in the same boat. After a little bit of searching, I'm reading posts from late model owners that say their new trucks don't provide braking below 15 mph (I've seen 9 mph stated also). But at least after mid-year 05 and up you would be able to do a pull test and prove they work.
On KNOW on my 05 now that the TCB (not manual nor brake Pedal) will NOT work until going forward fast enough to lock the doors,,,when I hear the locks go down, I KNOW I have RV brakes. That's why I want to know the P/N for the 07 MY controller. I will then pull my controller and look at its P/N.
I must have gotten lucky, based on the dates above. Mine is a 03/05 build date, with Carfax showing a 3/30/05 build/delivery date and my trailer brakes controllers works at any speed. I usually test it right after I pull away going about 5mph.
It would REALLY help if someone with at build date of 04/2005 or later could give me their controller p/n !! I guess I COULD go to the junkyard and HOPE to be able to read the build dates on chassis, but much easier to be able to order one with the correct P/N. I wonder if all NEW TBC's sold by Ford ARE the newer modules???
The part # 5C3Z-19H332-BA is for the module. Should be the same for all of them. What you're looking for is the latest software flash for the TBC module. Call Ford and see if they can update flash your existing module using IDS. I'm not able to check right now or I'd confirm. Maybe someone with an IDS on here can confirm if the update flash is available.
