4R100 Interchangability

4R100 Interchangability

Let's just say my transmission our of my '00 Excursion 4x4 v10 just cracked.. (see attached pic).

Anyway I'm in need of a cheap transmission. My question is I'm seeing that the 5.4L and v10 6.8L 4r100 are not interchangable. Is this true?

The reason I question this, is that the Ford Parts site shows the same part number for both. :-|

Please help! I have a line on a good transmission close, and I would love to have an answer soon.

Can't answer your question on interchangeability but I wanted to mention that the cause for broken cases like this is not due from something inside the transmission failing but due to something loose on the outside like the extension housing or the transfer case or problems with the drive shafts.

Check everything that is attached to the transmission you would hate to have this happen to the replacement one.

Is that JB weld all over the extension housing from a previous repair attempt?

Ford may be listing a 6.8L trans for a 5.4L. That will work. Putting a 5.4L trans behind a 6.8L isn't going to last long because the 5.4L version has less clutch plates.

wondering

i have a 2000 ford excursion 4x4 limited edition , wondering what trans would fit this it is 5.4 gas , i have a chance to get a gas 5.4 trans from a f250 super duty 2001 , would this work? i have people telling me only a excursion trans can be used in a excursion , but i have been told it is a f250 pretty much
