Hello my friends! I have a question regarding placing a v10 in a 1993 mark viii I have found for cheap. The owners are taking the DOHC v8 out for a classic cabover Econoline. Sooo.. I can get the rest of the vehicle for about 2k. My question is can you achieve this without massive modifications?
Do this: Measure the distance between two fuel injectors on the V10, and add that to the front of the Mark VIII engine, just for approximation purposes. That's how much longer the engine will be. Given the 4-valve DOHC is at least as high as a 2-valve V10, head-room shouldn't be an issue.
Yeah. I thought that would be an issue. But I also read somewhere that this motor wouldn't be any good for racing because its a torque motor, but didn't Ferrari himself say torque wins races? So taller gears probably and a good trans.
The transmission behind the V10 is a massive one, in height, weight and length. After having mine out of my truck, I'm certain it won't fit without massive modifications to the trans tunnel in the car.
Ok. I'm back with my post for the weekend. I've been really considering the mark viii V10 build because it just seems like a great idea to get what I'm looking for. Speed without the $30k price.
So I think that a v10 with 6r140 and flyby wire would not only be awesome but also very "collectible". I intend to use it as a daily PLUS my show car to get me in a car show and maybe parked next to a Lamborghini or something.
Just wanted to ask some opinions from you guys here. First, we can weld, plasma cut, construct, form, anything so most all this work will remain a personal project as I don't really trust anyone else to fix my things anyways.
Transmission: Considering that this vehicle is 6-7k lbs lighter than what the motor and trans were moving before, what's the earliest I could program this thing to get into 6th at highway speed if I wasn't ******* it. Also is the stock converter best for this?
Fuel Economy: what can I expect in a less than 4000lb car with a smartly programmed 6 spd. Not expecting 30 but I would believe 20 is not too much of a shot in the dark.
