No....the last 5 gallons fill just as fast as the first gallon....did so also on my 2011. You must be thinking way back..as the 6.7 has never done this to me.
My current truck is a 2002. Yes, it's a dinosaur with a big, loud and stinky 7.3. lol
I refilled mine at 32 miles to empty and was only able to get 28 gallons in, even after 'burping the tank' a few times. Either the fuel gauges are calibrated incorrectly or the tanks don't actually hold 34 gallons
Also on my 2011 it would show 0 miles and I could go 50-60 more miles and still have fuel left in the tank.
I am pretty sure Ford uses the fuel to keep the fuel pump cool, and that is why we can't put that much fuel in them when they are on 'empty'. I also am pretty sure that it is rally bad on the fuel pump to get hot on these trucks and one for the diesel is few k's!
Had 2 milestones to empty for first fill. Fill stopped at 44 gallons (48 gallon tank). Able to put two more gallons in with a little coaxing for 46 gallons. I was happy with that after reading the previous posts. ⛽️
Did my 2nd fill up today. Took it down to 30 miles to empty. Dash was showing 15.0 miles per gallon. It took exactly 27 gallons. So that gives me about 2 gallons left because of the 15 mpg with 30 miles left making it 29 gallons........so left over reserve equals 5 gallons if it is a 34 gallon tank.
So I spoke with my dealership Service Manager about this topic today. I explained what I was seeing on my CC Short Bed. He has already had a number of complaints from other 2017 owners and last week they replaced a sending unit in a 2017 to see if it made a difference - it did not.
He has since contacted Ford and they told him the following. The problem is visible at Ford. They are looking into it but no news on how / if it will be addressed. He said he would continue to apply pressure and update me when he learns something.
Well, That's good to know. I can understand if it was a couple gallon difference, but 7 gallons seems really extreme. Hope they come up with a fix (Update) soon

Ahh, the ole "we will look into it" line. Basically that means, "yeah, you're on your own, we have more important things to do, now go away".
Yesterday evening I drove my truck about 8 miles past DTE 0. BTW this system warns you at 25 miles, 15, 10, 5, and 0 DTE. I then tried to pack in as much fuel as I could and only got 29.5 gallons. There was literally no way to get any more fuel into the tank.
So in my mind - DTE of 0 is when I will worry about filling up no when the low fuel light indicator goes off for the first time.

That's great to know. Now, just need to cope with all of the dinging....!
I'm wondering if the DTE is a learning algorithm. When I first installed the Titan fuel tank on my 2011, the empty light would turn on with 10 gallons left in the tank. Over a few months time however, that changed to 5 gallons left in the tank. It started out that I could only put 40 gallons in when empty but it eventually leveled out to being able to put in 45 gallons when truck said empty.

That would be slick! But I suppose could also bite you if you didn't pay attention, eh? Time will tell with that for sure.
