Mileage To Empty-Modifying the trip Computer
Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
You may have read my previous posts, I installed the 48 gallon tank myself this past Saturday.
I'm still working on my first tank, 200 miles and I still have 3/4 of a tank!!!!!!
The mileage is correct off the bat.
The DTE computer has been spazzing. Of course it said I had about 340 miles til empty when I filled up... which is a lie in the first place, it faithfully counts down while I'm driving. Every time I shutdown and restart, it must look at the fuel gauge and refigure, after 200 miles I'm 204 miles to empty this morning. The combined total of which is more than the original DTE. But... with the fuel gauge at 3/4 it must think I drove 140 miles on 1/4 of a tank of fuel... which is not the case on a 29 gallon tank... so I don't know exactly what it's doing, but it's doing some math somewhere.
I figured before I get too concerned I'll see how it reacts once the first full tank has been run through.
If you get the 48 gallon tank, let me know, I'll be glad to share experience and let you know what to watch out for.

In the mean time, I was at 204 DTE at work, drove about 20 miles and now I'm 198 DTE...????? what IS this thing doing?
I will be sure to post what happens at my next fill up, which may be another week... love that tank.
I've rolled about 240 miles now and have just a tad less than 3/4 of a tank. Normally I'd be looking for a fuel stop right now, that's from a fill up last Saturday evening and I've driven less than I normally do this week.
I checked my credit card, I filled it up 7 times last month... 7 times!!! I know I did some towing last month, but 7 times? The whatever he/she was that decided to put a 29 gallon tank in a PSD... well... being polite as they actually could be reading this... I'd like to say, just, what, WERE YOU THINKING????? and... do you own stock in a aftermarket fuel tank company or something?

>tanks is a added plus for obvious reasons. For those that
>idle down to the mail box and other mundane tasks it is not.
> Unless you run alot of miles and keep the tanks full they
>pick up moisture/condensation and you have water in your
>fuel.
You are correct, I have the same issue with my boat's 135 gallon fuel tank, I always try to leave it close to full before any storage and I keep additives in the fuel to prolong shelf life and resist fuel related problems.
On my truck, I don't feel a 48 gallon tank that will be filled 3 to 4 times a month is too unreasonable. A 29 gallon tank being filled 7 times a month is unreasonable.
Ideally, we'd all have 100 gallon collapsible tanks.

Hi
Well I got the tank and love it but now I just need to get the trip computer fixed.

Ummm... in the first place it was not a "problem" I stated "Reprogram DTE for 48 gallons instead of 29"... what idiots.
I called back, I was told there is no way to reprogram the unit, it is sold from the factory as a 29/39 gallon etc... computer. I said great, transfer me to parts and stay on the line with me, I want to order whatever unit is closest to my tank size. Of course... the parts guy said there is only one computer and it has to be programmed....
To make a long story shorter... I'm not going back to that dealer and I'll try again the next time I have the truck in for some reason.
Which leads me to a question... is there a service center in Atlanta that anyone could suggest? One that might actually have a mechanic that recognizes a Powerstroke without picture aids?
