What about steeper inclines, the tanks are long front to rear it may be possible to run out of fuel with the few remaining gallons sloshed to one end or the other.
Guess it comes from years in the fire department but i always fill up as soon as she hits 1/4 tank, 3 fill ups so far and all have been 24-27 gallons on the 34 gal tank
Have always done the same thing. My '01 has a 39 gallon tank. 1/4 tank left means 30-32 gallons. Just the way it should be. But now I will be down to a 34 gallon tank which read incorrectly and will wind up fueling 30-40 % more often if I live by the gauge. This is wrong of some clipboard **** to determine that I cannot know the correct time to refuel the vehicle. The group who started this probably came out of some division of the government which assure us to be too stupid to know empty is empty.
Ok, so let's say, I want to figure out exactly how many miles till she starts choking....I have always been told it is not good at all to run out of diesel.
That true?
I know you have to turn key on and off to prime pump....but what if it is a push button start?

I was about to ask the same questions... What happens if I run until it does start starving for fuel, then what?
I would prefer for someone else to test this rather than me!
I would never want to run the HPFP out of fuel, they depend on the diesel for lubrication and it's very messy if they let go. My theory is it's only the diesels with the extra buffer built into the gauge for that very reason, but it's just a theory at this point.
I've run two full fuel runs, and I'm no expert, but we have a problem. I have a 34 gallon tank, and I showed 23 miles to empty on the first tank, and 18 miles to empty on the last one, and didn't get more than 27 gallons into the tank either time.
Any guesses on if it's a software issue, or a issue with the equipment in the tank?
I had 17 miles to empty, filled it up to the neck,..saw the diesel and barley got 27 gallons. Are we sure it's a 34 gallon tank? Does not make sense...even at 10 mpg that's 70 more miles. I am averaging 16 mpg in city..so that's 160 miles as a safety net.......... .
No....the last 5 gallons fill just as fast as the first gallon....did so also on my 2011. You must be thinking way back..as the 6.7 has never done this to me.

Falkirk....I mentioned this in a post a few weeks back. To see if someone could physically measure the size of the new 34 gallon tank on the '17 and measure a 29 gallon tank off of a short bed 2016 to see exactly what we are seeing dimension wise. I think there is a bigger problem then has been brought to light. Maybe yes..maybe no big deal....but why are these bigger tanks not taking more diesel when "Empty"????
