Thanks for the heads-up, I'll be sure to check when mine comes in next month. Seems like a standard item the dealerships should be checking when they process the trucks in, but obviously don't based on bronc71's experience.
Been dealing with the same dealer for 25yrs there in the same industrial court as my shop 4doors down. All they do when new trucks come in is bring it to the wash boy that goes over it and I think they have a new one every 6 months don't even think they know what locking hubs are lol
Just read this and thought my situation was weird, first thing I checked when I got home, one auto, one locked. So apparently this is a issue from the factory huh...
Mine where locked as well. I would think the price you pay to have it inspected and all would at very least look into this. Noticed rubbing on mine as well.
What is the difference between 4x4 and manual locking the hubs?

Manual locking the hubs just makes them turn together, doesn't mean there is any power actually to them.
4x4 mode actually supplies drive power to the front wheels with or without the hubs being locked electronically by pulling the esof **** out or by manually locking them.
Just checked mine. Driver Auto, passenger locked. I will be adding to my RV tow checklist. Dummy me for not checking before - DOH! Shame on Dealer and Ford too though.
Mine were both manually locked for the first 500 miles. Heard popping during tight turns but didn't even cross my mind to check the manual locks with the esof stuff. Went to dealer and just happened to look at those as I was getting ready to give them the keys, turned to auto, and no more popping. Had the dealer document it in case of future issues.
Same think on my F450. I noticed it in the first 100 miles -- heard the clicking. Took it to the dealer and they knew right away and changed them.
So much for PDI.
WHOA! I'll stick with getting out of the truck... I'm 29 so I've got plenty of time before it's too hard to get in and out.
I wasn't going to order ESOF when I was first considering a '17 XL. But after thinking about it, road/weather conditions change all the time while driving here in the winter. I like to be able to switch them on and off on the fly.

i definitely like the convenience however I've seen electric systems fail all too often. My dads 2015 Chevy got stuck in 4wd this hunting season and he had to drive the whole way home in 4wd

And the simple response is "should have bought a Ford"
