locking hubs

I dropped my truck off at the dealer today because the hubs were stuck in the auto position. They called back about two hours later and stated that they had to change both front hubs out. The truck only has 30000 miles on it. They fixed it under warrantee. My question, is there any preventive measures I can take to prevent this in the future. Thanx Mike

once a week, in your spare time, cycle the **** from auto to lock a few times. good practice is once a month to drive the tuck for a short distance in 4wd just to move the components.
