Starter noise
I have a 05 6.0 f350 auto that on start up makes a "clack clack clack" noise it only does it while the starter is cranking then is gone once it stops. It seems to be engaging fine starts and runs fine. I assume it's the starter maybe a bearing or something . Any ideas??

As you're thinking, the starter is the likely culprit. It's not too big of a job to drop it and inspect the drive gear on it and the flywheel for damage. The starter may bench test ok at an auto parts store but still be making the noise. There have been several cases of the starter simply coming loose from the engine and have one of the mount bolts missing. There should be three, obviously check that first and fix it fast as a loose starter will leave you stranded and can damage the flywheel ring gear. Check the recent threads on starters for good tips on which starter to buy and where the good deals are IF it turns out to need one.
One other tip, disconnect both batteries if pulling the starter, that big cable will make a lot of sparks if it touches anything
