Starter/grinding noise
93' 5.0. I have owned it 4 months. 1 out of 10 times right after I start I hear a grinding noise from underneath. I expect the starter. The grind lasts not even a second. Sometimes it is even a shorter duration. I had to shim a Chevy starter years ago but I doubt that is it because it just started, for me anyways. My next guess would be the bendix getting hung on the flywheel? Maybe the starter solenoid? I hate hearing it! Any thoughts?

Check to make sure the starter bolts are tight. After I had my trans. rebuilt, they firgit to tighten the bolts to the starter and I had teh same problem. I went as far as buying a new starter before even checking the old one and realized the problem once I got unter there and saw one of the bolts already half way out.

i wonder if the starter is an original or the previous owner replaced it with a manual- . trucks automatic right?or vice versa, ive had the so called parts experts sell me the wrong starter before------- for a manual 4 speed they gave me an automatic starter ---it grinded like this Hope this helps TR
