egr vacuum lines

egr vacuum lines
I have a 00 5.4l 2v triton, can someone tell me what are the 2 vacuum lines that come off the pipe between the egr and the exhaust, what are their purpose and why are they two different sizes. They both are dry rotted and i'm replacing them, just not sure what they do. thanks for the help
