Hey Todd, haven't heard from you in a while. Doesn't Al Gore drive an Aries K car? And you would think he would have a Prius after getting so rich inventing the internet.
LMAO!
True!
And the core of the earth is 100 million degrees!!

Al Gore's mansion pollutes more due to the coal used to generate its electricity than all our trucks combined. Dam hypocrite!
Jesus. This place is turning into a hen house. The guy asks a question about tuning and he gets 20 answers from people who have no interest in tuning their trucks and instead just give generic "these are work trucks not race cars" type of insight. If you have nothing to offer, why bother posting? Just to get your post count up? This was miserable to read through and try and extract any useful information to the question that was asked.
I agree that most of the deleted "modern" diesels still are basically smokeless and odorless. It is a testament to how far engineering has come prior to the aftertreatment system.
So basically, a deleted and tuned 6.7 Ford is still cleaner than a stock 7.3 and probably a stock 6.0L.
A great deal of the $8500 that options a diesel engine into a Super Duty goes straight into the aftertreatment system, which most of us don't want. Consider it another tax placed by the government.
I'm all for clean air, but if your truck can roll coal and you do it sparingly and in areas where no one else is around...who cares. If you do it up Main St, by all means have the police stop the individual and issue a citation.
In general, I think tuning for increased power is stupid because it almost always harms the engine's longevity. Nevertheless, I'd like to think we still live in a free country.
Anyone heard any tuners beta testing tunes other than venom and bdp? surely spartan or someone?
remember guys these trucks can be tuned and keep the epa garbage in tact, and see some benefits of optimized timing, less egr, less urea usage and less regen's from less egr.
It's amazing how quickly regular conversations on a message board turn into a political debate. Some people can't turn their minds off of the political bs for even a day.
This board is actually pretty good about keeping it about trucks, but every once in a while we still have threads like this one.
I tuned My 6.4, and if I'm not careful, it will Blech black smoke. But I saved myself $12k-$15k because I saved my motor by doing it, and my fuel mileage climbed substantially. I don't hotrod it and I promise I won't go into a restaurant and sit next to anyone with a lit cigarette. I don't smoke, so that should be pretty easy to do.

Tuning trucks is an inherently political topic considering there are laws against it, and rolling coal, in many states. It should not come as a surprise that politics are mentioned in this thread.

I live in a small town of about 3000 people in farm country. Everyday there are a group of "tuned diesels" patrolling the streets with their straight stacks and black smoke contaminating my environment. 60 mph in a 30 and jake brakes at 2 AM. It is political and it is my right to complain about it as much as it is your right to brag about it. Since so many of you try to make life in the outside world miserable don't be upset if someone posts something against your goals in an online forum. Go ahead, blow up your 80K truck. But you are wrong that it is none of our business.
So this is what you are after?????
I don't think that kind of stuff is going to last much longer. There's too many agencies that take anonymous tips and chase down the offenders. It's a big deal fine when the local EPA disciples come calling.
while I agree that the smoke from modified PSD's or anything else for that matter, is not a good thing. (this is one mans opinion-mine) But as you put it "BUT it's not just about YOU and YOUR TRUCK, it's about how it affects ME and MY FAMILY", HOWEVER IT ISNT ALL ABOUT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, EITHER. or AS YOU ALSO STATE "it's about protecting that big unalienable right of others: LIFE, *FULL STOP* some of us have this thing called the unalienable right to pursue HAPPINESS - however there are places this can be done, tracks, truck meets, large piece's of personal property (like acre's and acre's in Texas as just one example) and other places/venue's. IF ppl who take issue to "breathing this in" they have an absolute right to and can change the channel and tune in to something else, like bird watching or nature walks, perhaps even the waterfall channel on sat TV.
my point is while some claim they have the right to NOT have their rights stepped on (your claim), that's fine as long as your not stepping on the rights of others (while complaining ONLY about YOU YOU YOU!!) - To legally do whatever they wish when they wish do it. People who do not like a "certain activity because something "offends" them certainly have the right to remove themselves from said situation and
go elsewhere and to not be anywhere near these things that "offend them,(or as previously stated change the channel) and no one I know would blame you for that. But to try to step on other toes/rights for there happiness just because you don't like something or agree with it does not make it right it just means that you are trying to control the situation, lest not forget OTHER'S have rights too. and your rights are no less important to you than mine are to me or to those that agree with me or other like minded people. now if they are doing what you say "up and down your street" I would be the first to stand with you and condemn their actions. but lets at least agree that NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO INFRINGE on anyone's LIFE, LIBERTY and PURSUIT of HAPPINESS.

First off a little black smoke is the least of our worries today. Juesus look around , Japan has just nuked the ocean. China gives a chit. But it's cheap so who cares. You tree huggers crack me up.
hey Fountain, me no tree hugger at ALL, lol I agree with you, that was kinda my point, unless they are *itching about something/someone or what they do/or have done they is no happy, it just drives em bat****** its like thats there personal crusade. I am all in for a clean big blue ball, but with a small sense of this long lost commodity maybe you've heard of it too it used to be called common sense, yeah that's what I think they used to call it. been a long time since I've seen it round here in these parts. lol.
watch out for the crazy little stumpy kid in N.K. "rolling coal" if that's what it's called, will look safe and be longed for if little stumpy chews on any more lead painted window sills.

Great post, Joe. That's the problem we see today...so many people (social justice warriors) are crusading for a cause which actually tramples the individual rights of other people. They don't care, because they see themselves on the moral high ground...even when they are actually not.
I'm with you. I don't have any interest in driving an electric car, or being transported in a self-driving car. I don't have any interest in ride-sharing services or being on a 4-way lease with three other people "owning" my car. And while I'm all for a clean Earth as well, don't tell me I can't drive a gas or diesel car, do a burnout, have a campfire, etc. Believe it or not, the city of London is considering making it illegal to burn wood to heat your home.
You comment on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is very well said.
