All Stop and No Go

Hi guys,

after what seems like a lifetime of looking, I have finally found what I hope to be a suitable source for my braking woes. I am sick and tired of the weak and dodgy 4 wheel drums with a single master cylinder on my 1965 F250 and it seems like I have found a solution. I found a guy who is parting out a 1976 F250, it has the needed 8 lug hubs as well as being a 2WD truck. My question is will the I beams directly bolt into my 1965, and what will I need to get from the donor?

I know I will need the I beams, master cylinder, maybe the booster, the proportioning valves, but will I need the springs and lines and other stuff or what? I think I will be getting everything together for $220, I hope that's a decent deal.

Thank you for your help!

If the donor has same engine and transmission, I would include power steering at the same time. I have never worked on a 250 but everything should be bolt hole exchange. I bought my donors and had all needed parts. My last swap was a 76, I unbolted the complete axle set, slid it over and under my 66 and bolted it all back up. You will need the booster (and will have to adjust connect point for pedal hang). I retained my 66 pedal. Whether you reuse the brake lines is your call but the disc system uses different front lines and mounting brackets. Don't think there is any reason to change anything on the rear but will leave room for different opinions.

Ask what questions you have, we will try to help.

Thanks John,

Some where along the lines Romanowski swapped my truck over to power steering and power brakes, but when he did he used the smallest brake booster he could find it seems. I know I'll be needing the dial matter cylinder but I'll grab the linkage too! Also good call on the lines I'll look into that.

Do you have any idea how much the front end will weigh? And also I'll probably have help from a professional hot rodder, but how long do you think the swap will take?

I'm pretty excited though, the drive to pick up the stuff will be a 150 mile round trip on roads less traveled. I'm sure the Colorado farm country will be a pleasure to look at and a good distraction from my bleeding ear drums!

Well before you go running off into the sun, can you take some photos of your power steering gear and the brake booster 1st. Guessing complete axle set maybe 300lbs.

Depending on help, equip to use and place to work maybe a couple weekends, maybe less for complete swap to drive again.

Looks like someone added a booster to the brake system. I have read comments here that some guys think that is ok. Personally I prefer a engineered system to stop my truck and used a complete donor set.

So get it all. PS looks newer than what I had so if it is working leave it.

My 2

That could be a factory booster setup. I'm pretty sure it was available as an option in '65...
