Thanks Moose. So to all: Here's the scoop. The HPOP is out and there is "crud" built up below mainly the front high pressure fitting and the non-servicable plug. I could envision oil leaking from the high pressure fitting down over the plug and that would account for all the crud down that side. There is a little crud built up below the rear highpressure fitting as well as maybe a little under the internal bypass cap but that may be a false alarm.

So I assume a replacement non-service plug is in order but what other kind of gaskets and orings should I be replacing? I am pretty certain the front high pressure hose was leaking as well as the rear one. Also, should I just go ahead and replace the IPR orings as well although there is no indication of a leak there?

Your opinions would be appreciated. I should add i'm on a budget here but I suppose I could pop for a rebuilt, but as I said before (I think) I only have 125K on the truck.

Oh yeah, and what do you all think about RiffRaff for the gaskets/orings/parts. They seem to have got a lot of accolades on the forum.

Reuse O rings at your own risk but if they're still round, not hardened and undamaged I will reuse them, but that's just me, they aren't that expensive. Clay at Riffraff told me right out that the HPOP rarely fails but often gets replaced unnecessarily.

Riffraff good...no, Riffraff unbeatable. Small stuff goes USPS and shows up fast.

Clay at Riffraffdiesel.com and Bob at Dieseloring.com are my first two stops for parts. They are always helpful, have good products, and usually the best prices around.

I feel you on the HPO leak from the front HPOP fitting...

You may be right. But the "crud" starts so high up, under the front hpressure hose fitting. Pics attached

Any more thoughts out there before I start ordering parts tomorrow?

If you pull those fittings out of the pump be real careful, they only torque to 25 ft/lbs when you reassemble and use loctite to keep them in.

I haven't read through the whole thread, sorry. But if it were me I would go ahead and reseal the entire hpop while it's out to eliminate any future leaks. Also if funds aren't an issue go ahead and replace the high pressure lines with the ones from RRD.

Be SURE to use LocTite (forgot which number) on the threads, and don't disturb it once it sets.

Before you apply the LocTite, be POSITIVE that the threads, both male and female, are spotlessly clean!

Q-tips and acetone come to mind.

It's the only way the LocTite can effectively do its job.

Seems like I saw a post of yours sometime back where you fixed a non-serviceable plug leak without taking the HPOP out using only chewing gum and a ball pein hammer

Well, sorta.......

It's now been YEARS, and it still doesn't leak.

However, I never know when the "other shoe will drop"!

Loc-Tite 680 is the one you want. If you get the fittings from Clay or Bob it should come with a small packet of 680, which is more than enough.
