So I watched a few youtube videos on how to remove the HPOP and started. Didn't get very far before I ran into the IPR which requires 1-1/8" deep socket. I used to have a 1960's set of Craftsman deep socket through 1-1/8" but there were stolen a couple of years ago when so local low-lifes broke into my garage and took just about all my tools. Since the insurance paid me about 10 cents on the dollar, I replaced them with a set of Harbor Freight 1/2" drive deep sockets. However, the deep socket unlike my 50 year old Craftsman socket has some supportive structure in it about 2/3 of the way back and it won't fit over the IPR! So I went to Sears, and low and behold, they could have been made at the same factory except Sears is chrome plated, so I went to Lowes - same thing! I did buy a 3/4" drive 1-1/8" standard socket which will slip over the IPR, but how do you turn it?

Anyone know how I can get that IPR out? I think I have to remove it to get the HPOP out, right?

You can leave the IPR in and remove the HPOP if you want to.

NAPA sells a deep socket that works. Others have welded a flat bar on the end of their more shallow socket since they can't get a ratchet in there.

I may have had some other stuff out of the way but I removed and installed my IPR with a 1 1/8" combination wrench. I had a lot of stuff out so I can't remember how many hoses were still hooked up.

I can't even see the 1-1/8 nut and my combination wrench is too long to have access with the HPOP still in, so I am going to take it out later, and yes, with a combination wrench. (just to check the orings)

Thanks for your input.

Seems to me that I remember someone removed his IPR with one of those shower-faucet sockets that come in a set held together by a huge bobby-pin-lookin' clip.

Available in the plumbing section at Harbor Freight:

That is sooooooo funny! I've got a set of those. I needed them to take the valves out of a shower once.

For your information, I just checked the set of "sockets" I bought for the shower valve removal so 15 years ago and there was no 1-1/8" in the set. Close (1-3/32) but no prize. Not to say other sets may have 1-1/8", just that mine didn't.

Over the years I've 'inherited' a couple of those (don't know how they got into my tool box) and never knew what they were. Now I know!

Looks like it's taking me about 2 days a bolt! On the main 18mm bolt for the HPOP under the reservoir, what's the best way for one person to hold the engine while breaking it loose? When I try to, it turns the engine over.

Put a breaker bar and socket on the crank (damper) and wedge it in place.

OK, main 18mm HPOP bolt out but have another question or two. 1. I understand that it should be torqued to 96 lbs when I put it back, is that right? and 2. What does the blue paint splash on the bold signify?
