Hello Rena. There are how to vids on you tube that can help as well. The key to finding ones with that can help is using the terms you need.
Example: Installing, Ford, FE, truck. Try using these key words in Google. then click on videos. You'll get an idea of what is out there.
FYI: ( FE ) is the type of engine you have.
Your first step is to get the engine mounted to the transmission and then the motor mounts bolted to the frame towers.
You really need someone to give you hands on help. Doing the things you need to do to get this together are not difficult in themselves. It's knowing what needs to be done in what order that is tricky.
The people on this site are a great wealth of knowledge and are very willing to share that but it is tough to walk someone through a task w/o specifics or eyes on.
Knowing what you want to do and what pieces ( parts ) of the project you have is information we need to guide you.
Doing it online is tedious at best.
I will try and answer any ?'s I can and walk you through as best I can. I'm in the process of sprucing up my 72'. I am no expert. I rely on the other guys on this site and I wouldn't have been able to do what I have done so far w/o their assistance. Most will help any way they can.
Why did he stop right there? The engine still hanging from someone's Cherry Picker. Hopefully he didn't find something terribly wrong and then bail on you.

Although you may be onto something? I think the answer may be that $350 would barely get the motor cleaned and machined in my neck of the woods. Much less removal and install. I think in this case it was a case of "get what you paid for". If incapable to continue the install, I'd even suggest further to go back to the same mechanic and start with an offer of another $200+ to complete the install???
For me to remove an engine, break it down for machining and put it back together and install after the machining is done would cost at least a $500. That's not including the machining?
But all honesty, these trucks are the easiest start of any mechanical learning and information gathering you can get. They are as basic as any engine. And what's left to do is just a lot of small things that machinists don't like to do for they are basic.
Every machinist I ever encountered never wanted to have anything to do with pulling and install of the motor. And most like to get the motor as complete as possible so that they can determine if anything can go wrong yielding in their warranty being served. They even like to get the air cleaner to make sure...

This is both funny and exactly what I was worried about. Seeing where he left off, now I gotta wonder things like: Valves adjusted correctly? Dizzy (distributor) installed in the right spot? Heads torqued down correctly? Torque convertor all the way in the tranny's front pump? Etc,etc.
$350 buys some gaskets and a can of spray paint. I also note that the inside of the intake facing the valve train seems to have been painted, which seems odd to me.
$350 will also pretty much pay for someone to pull an engine.
I don't think the kind of help that is needed can be had by asking for it even on a forum where there are a lot of experts.
Jefffafa, I'm at a loss why he stopped there too. Is it lined up to the tranny? Did he lose the bolts for the motor mounts? Was it beer-thirty? and I hope that Rena bought the parts and the $350 was just for the labor. Because like "yellow truck" said, the part prices don't add up to $350 for this job.
