351w cam selection

In the process of building a new motor for my 1997 F250HD and trying to decide on a cam. A lot of people recommend the crane 444232 which I noticed is a hydraulic flat tappet cam but I'm using a 96 roller motor as a base. Would it make sense to go backwards and install the crane or should I stick with the stock cam and run 1.7 roller rockers? Feel free to let me know any other suggestions.

I'm building the same engine right now and I'm using the stock roller with 1.7 roller rockers. If you want low end torque for towing it is the way to go.

Perfect that's what I'm going for. What brand roller rockers are you running?

Crane Energizer seems to be the way to go. 5/16" pedestal mount. They seem to be backordered though. Ford Racing sells the same thing, for $80 more. Parts houses have those stocked but not the kit direct from Crane.

I too am doing a 5.8L build right now with stock roller cam and 1.7 RR. Lots of reading lead me to believe it's a great bang for your buck with no one being flat out unhappy. I added in a bottom end rebuild, fresh GT40P heads, long tube headers, and a Frankenstein intake. Goal is torque for me too. Getting excited to drive it!

GoinBoarding what do you mean by Frankenstein intake? And '89f2urd I checked out both cams and they have an LSA of 112 degrees. I'm running the stock speed density and I was under the impression that I couldn't go below 114 degrees.

Both of those 112 lsa cams work with speed density, 114 lsa is a general rule of thumb, but not law...far more important than lsa is when the intake valve closes. Both of those cams intake closing events are early, generating lots of vacuum and lots of torque off idle.

They work fine.

Porting a 5.8L truck lower intake to match a 5.0L truck upper intake. Discussed here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-manifold.html

It's a cheap way to gain some flow. How much? I don't know, but I didn't have the funds for an aftermarket intake.
