Bouncing tach
91 f150 302
My tachometer was bouncing all the way back from California every time I went over 2400 rpms it didn't seem to do it if I just revved it in neutral
The check engine light kept coming on but always went back off I assume they're connected

Loose items on the board of the tachometer.
Replace Tachometer or re solder the part on the board.

Our tachs are doing two different things mine drops 50 or so rpms at a time once you get to a high rpm I feel its not the tach since as far as I can tell it's still accurate to that point

It was the module causing it
It could also be the pickup and replacing the module was like a bandaid for it but well see

A bit unrelated here but what's it take to lube up the speedo cable I keep eating gears 10,000 or so miles on the last set
It's got a 1345 in case someone knows where to get a new gear for less than $60
