I would run a tap down into the hole to clean the threads? Sounds kind of counter intuitive to to me. Almost like I'd be pushing the trash down further into the hole. BUT, I'll do it.

I opened her up more last night and found this:

Number 7 injector cup.

Injector 7 that was a PITA to get out...

Say cheese....

Once I got the muck out.

Rockers and valley didn't look to bad, Just had the same crumb rust as usual here and under the rocker covers as in my fuel tanks and a couple other places.

Still need to get water pump and what not off but.....Not right now. Need rental tools to do all that and to get the timing cover off and no one is open right now....

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to write this block off... WAY to much rust or me to feel confident in it. The heads might be fine but I'm not liking what I see.... Oh, And I still need a cab, core, and a long list of parts.....I may end up junking this thing after all.

Someone was running straight water in it, and id say its sat for a long time, that will cause rust like that on the rockers... not that big of deal. The intake ports tho... that is nuts, never seen anything like it, and ive had flooded engines apart. The one im my 79 was full of water for 2 years and you couldnt really tell.

Its been off the road now for almost 10 years. The air cover was off and hood popped up....the engine I'm pretty sure is done for. Rockers and valley maybe fine but cylinders and what not I don't know. I gave up on this truck. It needs too much despite how bad I want to save her. I can't get the parts it needs. Either people want to much for them or not letting them go.

These silly engines will put up with a lot. At this point, the only issue I see is the broken injector. You'll probably want to grind the big threads off the top half of the injector, and try to thread the bottom threads back into the bottom half, then yank it out.

The other stuff is pretty much cosmetic. Cylinders might have issues, but, erm, it /ran/. If it starts and runs, it has compression... so don't worry too much about that.

I, um, found some pretty serious scoring in most of my cylinders on my 7.3 after I evidently left some crud in there when replacing a headgasket... thing still fires right up and has plenty of power. No more blowby than any of my other engines, either.
So, just clean it, patch it back together and run it! Don't worry about it being perfect, it's a write off... so just make her run!
