Purchased a 2000 Excursion Limited, 7.3 2wd that ended up having a bad trans. I ended up buying a 100k unit off craigslist for $600 under the assumption that all 4r100s behind the 7.3s were the same. It came out of an E-350 van 7.3, 2wd.
Got it home, took it to a shop to get it swapped out and have come to find they don't fit.
Old trans code is YC3P-EB, the used one I got it is XC2P-JB.
Upon looking on a couple websites- both are listed as 4r100s that come behind the 7.3 motor, but these 2 codes are not compatible randomly? My old trans YC3PEB shares codes with nearly 100 other vehicles - whereas the XC only interchanges with a handful of econoline vans.
I'm told the bell housings won't swap and the speed sensors won't swap over- as well as the drive shaft itself won't fit - my excursions shaft is too large.
Any thoughts? I'm perplexed as to the differences in trans- I don't want to make the same mistake when I buy another one, as I guess not all 4r100s are created equal
Was the used tranny maybe out of an E450 and has/ or had the e brake on the rear ?
Out of an e350, no ebrake. my excursion's driveshaft is too big to go into the tail of the transmission is what I'm told- maybe I just need to possibly swap out the rear seal and that's the issue. Dunno, gonna go by the shop and take a look at it tomorrow.
Well, figure I need to swap the output shafts on these. Got the bad transmission torn down and it was very bad, but the output shaft appears in good shape. Total teardown took under 2 hours on the first unit. Hoping to get everything swapped over tomorrow..
It's too bad I can't just swap the gear from 1 output shaft to another.. would make life much easier... LOL
