Out of the Blue my 1990 F250 4x4 460+E4OD started acting up. She wants to up shift prematurely. It'll try to go to drive at 10mph. Other things quit working when this happened. The 4wd indicator light, volt meter, and gas gage all quit working at the same time. I got her home and did a visual inspection, wiggled wires checked connections. Couldn't find anything wrong. I put the code reader on, no codes. Started her up and everything was working again. I drove it for a week, then it did it again. I unplugged and greased every connection, nothing. I heard if there is a problem with E4OD, most likely MLPS sensor. Changed that still nothing. I can drive the truck, but I have to manually shift it. It grabs the next gear really hard so I have to let off the gas before I up shift. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
I've seen this happen when the circuit that tells the PCM the transfer case is in 4x4L gets damaged. When the PCM thinks it is in 4x4L the shift schedules are WAY early.
Everything works on the dash except volt meter, gas gauge, and 4wd light. 0volts but charging fine. 1/2 tank indicated empty or full. 4wd light doesn't work in any position. I wouldn't even know where to find the ground for dash, I can't see anything
Pulled it checked it, all seems to be ok. I'm wondering if there isn't a wire issue on the solenoid side. It's so close to the exhaust, maybe the wires are cooked. I just don't understand how that could effect the gauges. Didn't get her wet. It's a steep dirt launch, that's why I needed 4wd, but the tires never got wet
