E4OD rough shift

Hey guys wanna know what you think on this. My 90 F250 460 auto (E4OD) will not shift into 2nd or 3rd gear on its own. I literally have to take off in drive downshift to 2nd and then upshift to 3rd. It flatout refuses to shift on its own. On longer drives it while in 3rd or overdrive will "fall" out of gear like its losing line pressure or the converter slips? i dunno its only my work truck Im just curious to see what anyone says before I scrap it or if fixable for minimal $$ Ill give it to my son. Thanks!

Have you run self test? That will probably show codes that are stored that will help find out what's wrong. I think there is no electrical power to the transmission.

No i havent run any tests and cant find anyone with an obd1 scanner. how do you do the self test? Thanks, Ron

Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link on how to get any trouble codes. To make life easier you could buy an Equus 3145 code reader for around $30.00 but the blinking check engine light is just as good if you are careful.
