I parked my truck yesterday and know the odometer display was working. Started truck up this morning and no display. My brake light (idiot light in dash) was slightly illuminated as well. The truck ran fine and when I shut it off and started it back up again, the odometer was still out but the brake light was off. Any thoughts? I saw a you tube video showing a cold solder joint on the back of the dash motherboard. I hate to pull that all apart if there could be something else that is simple. Thanks for any suggestions.
So the temporary fix was to jump in truck yesterday and start it up. Looked at the odometer and it was illuminated again. Got a gremlin running around in there but for now, its on. Any bets on tomorrow? its a 50/50 chance.
The cold solder joint is a common issue and really easy to fix. My odometer would come and go for over a year before I finally tore into it to fix it.
Don't know about the brake light.
The brake light turned out to be a sagging e-brake pedal. I never use it and it has been loose since I got the truck (been addressing more critical stuff). It was just sagging a little bit. I lifted it with my toe and light went out. Doh . I'll get to that one of these days

I had the same issue with the odometer. Tried the cold solder fix and worked like a charm. Not as bad as it sounds. Removed, fixed, and reinstalled in less than an hour.

Bass, Thanks for the info. Glad to hear its not as bad as it initially appears to pull it apart. At this point, the odometer display came back on and has remained working for about a week now. I guess I hit a bump at the right angle. lol I'll ride this wave until it fails again and then probably pull it apart.
