I've noticed the last few days (when it has been around 20 degrees F in the day and around 8 at night) that the parking/emergency brake on my 99 350 doesn't trigger the dash light. I had it in the garage for the ball joint/wheel bearing replacement and all worked fine. But before that, when it was outside, the dash light did not come on in every occassion.
Worse yet, the 'reminder' chime that normally sounds when the brake is left on and the truck exceeds 5 mph is apparently linked to this light - b/c it does not sound. I drove nearly 5 blocks with the freaking brake on today (doh!).
Any thoughts on what the problem might be or how to fix it? Also, how much damage did I do driving with the brake on (low speed city traffic)?
I had the same problem, mine was just a bad electrical connection. There is a wire going to a small connector just above the pedal and on the side. If your brake light doesn't come on, jiggling the connector should tell you if that is it.
Mine would work sometimes and not others. the switch was dirty. Blew it out with some air pressure and used a very small amount of WD-40 on a cotton swab. Works ok ever since.
