Heating wasn't too bad. The boat had a heat pump that circulated water from which it got its heat. The harbor he was moored in also was spring fed with warm water.

I remember back in the 60s ice thickness was reported in the newspaper. I remember reading where the ice on the river would be 12" thick. I don't think it gets anywhere near that now. Mark kept two bubblers under the boat bringing the warm water to the surface keeping the boat from being locked in the ice.

After ten years he said enough of this crap and sold the houseboat and bought a condo a short distance from the harbor. His dream was to retire and take the boat far enough South that he wouldn't have to winterize it. He figured that would be Chattanooga Tennessee.
