In California no tint is allowed on the drivers and passenger windows, even though people do it. You can get ticketed for it. The was another thread on here about not doing the windshield with the clear as it can create problems at night.
Im not saying it can't happen but it doesn't happen with quality tint and a reputable installer. My guy has done every vehicle since 1996 for me, 96 Chevy, 2000 F550, 02 F250, 02 Honda, 05 Mercedes, 06 BMW, 09 Yukon, 10 F250, 14 Prius, 17 Audi & soon to be 17 F350. ALL with zero issues whatsoever & never a ticket (for the windshield) because you can't tell it's there unless you look for it. It doesn't "tint" the windshield at all. Will keep the heat out though. Intend on snapping a few photos before it got dark to show it but didn't make it in time. Will tomorrow. I wouldn't have a car without it now.
As for costs, my guy charges $400. On my wife's new car that's the back glass, 4 doors, small side rear window x2, small side front window x2, twin panel roof glass, & of course the windshield. on my trucks he usually does the entire windshield in clear & then puts a "brow" across the top portion of the windshield over the clear to block out the sun towards the top 8" or so of the windshield. Still $400. Some states will not allow some windows to be tinted so if you are worried about that you may want to check 1st with local laws before spending your money.
Also, different tint manufacturers label their tint differently so be careful there. Not sure of the brand my guy uses but 50% is essentially clear while 2,3, or 5% is REALLY dark tint. I use 5% everywhere except windshield-50% & side doors by driver & front passenger 20%. It's pretty dark but nice IMOP.

I used to live in California and I had a 97 Camaro Z-28. I had tint on the side windows. It was like 45%. I drove that way for a long time and then one day got pulled over and was given a fix-it ticket. The cop said I was speeding a little, but not much, and he would have let it go. But then he saw the tint, which normally he'd let go... but he couldn't let both go. He let me pick. haha. (i was pretty young)

That's their way of getting the 25 bucks outta you but not hurting your driving record. Nice officer, I'd take the fix-it anyday over the speeding.

Yeah, I am a socal guy and always feared it.
Though I finally said screw it. On my last 2 cars I went 30 all around and 50 on full winshield. It actually makes seeing day and night easier while keeping car cooler (the 50 reduces all the glare, sun and lights). When my F-350 arrives it will get the same treatment. I cant belive I waited so long to do it. As far as darkness goes, the 50 on front darkens the inside enough that the 30 looks darker from outside, but not so dark a cop can't see me through drivers window. Here they usually pull over the guy that they cant see when the pull next to the drivers window (both my brothers have been pulled over with 5 and 15). With my set up now, you cant tell windshield is done and I have sat next to many cops with windows up and they don't take a second glance.
Well, there is my 2 cents...
In NY any tint on the side windows is a good way to get stopped and metered. Almost all the cops carry a meter and use tint as an avenue to smell your breath and look around your car/truck. The law stems from a murder of a cop who stopped a full blacked out car and was shot at point blank range. One bad apple in the big apple spoiled the whole barrel. On the other hand I understand why they (or myself too) are intimidated by someone hiding behind black glass.
Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle. If the vehicle is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible, the rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window.

I have always thought of doing a tint but never have, didn't want to get stopped, Wifes fusion has no tint, dont know why ford did that, thinking of doing atleast the back windows
Well I got 20% on the sides and back. It looks great!!! He is ordering 80% ceramic for the moon roof and windshield. We will see how much it changes the temp in the afternoons.

Looks good. Did the installer confirm the factory tint is 20%? All I've spoken to have said this...but I don't have a truck yet to ensure.
Looking forward to your moonroof install, on my list as well.
