So my rig is driving me nuts lately rather than me driving it. She's a 96 F350, 7.5 with the E4OD, 2wd. The mileage is only 132,xxx. The transmission has been good and only shifted a little hard on the 1 to 2 and 3 to 4 shifts in the mornings. A few weeks ago I went to back up my driveway which is about a 30 degree incline or so. Once the whole truck was vertical it wouldn't budge. I had the pedal to the floor for a few seconds and the motor would boog down but the truck wouldn't move. I eventually got it parked and this past weekend I changed the filter and fluid, and added two bottles of the Lucas transmission additive. Now, it will back up the driveway fine but the 3 to 4 and 4 to 3 shifts are VERY hard. To the point I take the overdrive off when I'm driving around town. Do you guys think it's time for a rebuild or does it sound like a shift solenoid problem? There are no DTC's or check engine light on. As always thank you for your help.
Which scan tool are you using? There is no "transmission module" on an OBD-2 equipped truck. To get transmission codes on Ford OBD-2 equipped trucks generally requires something like the free FORScan.org software with a proper ELM327 OBD-2 adapter (you can get the total setup for like $15).
Regular scantools, even the slightly fancier ones with live-data generally won't grab transmission codes from OBD-2 trucks.
I would take some line pressure readings and see if the computer is trying to bump up the pressure. Excessively high pressure will cause harsh shifting in some cases. Other things might be going on in the valve body, like a check ball or valve that isn't functioning correctly.
