Was driving 55 and came to water running across the road looked only an inch deep so didnt change speed hit the water and it was deeper then expected but now my speedometer doesn't work but all the other gauges do. Has this happened to anybody else or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it.
If its before I think '92 its a mechanical speedometer driven off either the transmission (2wd) or the transfer case (4x4). '92+ went to an electronic speedo that takes the signal from the speed sensor on the rear diff.
In both cases its possible that hitting the water at speed could have knocked something loose underneath the truck, I'd start by looking under and seeing what you can find that doesn't look to be in place.
