When your starting your 97,my hpop pressure guage hits 500 psi, truck should fire.now when it doesn't and your cranking within 2-5 seconds it jumps to 3000.
(Stock resealed hpop) BIG load on starter (new Napa 2001 update )
Sounds like it's loading up.got white smoke. Tach shows movement.
(NEW CPS navistar )
(New IDM napa)
(PCM swamps obd2 upgrade.)
It fires a little. Need a direction
Hpop oil all good.is it possible that with all the attempted starts we've loaded the cylinders? The fact that the hpop pressure goes to max makes me think that the new aftermarket IPR may be bad.
How do I determine the duty cycle of the ipr? Wiring is all new Ford along with fuel bowl assembly. New navistar cps....test wiring? If so ,how?
If I pull the truck down the road will that spin the engine enough to clear cylinders? I'm getting stumped.
Let me reask the question.
When starting a 97 7.3, upon hitting the 500 to 750 psi to fire the injection, wouldn’t the fact that the hpop guage goes to 3000+psi (Need to get a 5000) indicate a possible stuck ipr.or bad idm? ..Idm new , but it's a napa.
What condition are your glow plugs/GP relay? You are getting white smoke, so the injectors are firing. Have you tried starting after the engine block heater has been plugged in for a couple of hours? To me, it sounds like you are low on heat to get the engine to fire. A diesel needs fuel, which you are getting, compression, and heat in the cylinder to fire.
Have not checked condition of glow plugs. Glow plug relay rewired by previous owner to a push contact button in dash.has always worked well.plugging in truck now.
Tach moves but seems intermittent.checking my scanner now to see if it can give me a read out while cranking. Until hpop pressure goes above 750 psi(at 1500 gets slower) it sounds like it always did.
Ok ,checked glow relay voltage. Did not try to start. 1st test Hot side 13.20 press dash switch 11.20. 2nd test 12.70 hot activated 10.70.seem to be going down. Batteries have been on charge. 2 amp trickle.
Waiting for engine to he as t up. (Plugged in block heater, again)

How much voltage drop is there across the glow plug relay?

We were holding glow button down maybe 10 seconds. It fired up. However E fuel pump went to 80+lbs.and I shut down. Now it won't start again and I thru a 1661 code.glow plug relay was dropping 2+volts when cranking. Fuel pump stock 2002 pump into fuel bowl assembly should be 65 psi, right?
