Need to replace my steering pump. I try to put ford parts in to replace ford parts. However, I have heard that ford pumps are notoriously loud no matter what. I am considering using an aftermarket pump to reduce overall noise. I suppose I am just looking for any recommendations in this matter to help me make a decision.

I haven't considered that yet. I am mostly wondering if anyone has had any good/poor experience with aftermarket pumps. I am looking to reduce the overall noise of my truck. That being said, I am less willing to sacrifice performance, durability and reliability.
If it was just leaking, its not a hard fix at all. Lots of noise they say comes from air in steering fluid, so your leak may have been generating the noise.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is much out there for the 300-6 to switch, easily, to a different pump. I tossed this idea and partially attempted with my FE motor, but after getting fed up with crap aftermarket brackets and the amount of complications in doing the swap, I resolved myself to be happy with the notoriously noisy pump.
You could consider later model pumps that were used with the 300-6, but realistically, speaking from owning a 300-6, there is more noise from those metallic cam timing gears.
If you can find a mid 70s to mid 80s Econoline van in a junkyard with a 300 it should have everything you need to switch to a Saginaw pump. They work much better than Ford pumps and are silent. All you need is the bracket, pump, and pressure hose. If you can't find anything check out Borgeson. Borgeson Universal Company :: Pumps, Brkts & Hoses :: Power Steering Pump Upgrade Kits for Fords

Make sure you have the correct Type F trans fluid in the system.
Some people use Mercon (dexron) or the clear PS fluid thinking it is the correct stuff. It is not.
The Ford pumps tend to whine wine if they have those "OTHER" fluids in them.
In my experience most Ford pumps will quieten down (to near silent) 95% of the time with a flush and fill of fresh Type F. With the correct fluid in them the Ford pumps really are just as good as the Saginaw ones.
If it does not quieten the pump down then it is time to replace the pump, as the vanes are chattering due to wear. But hey on the bright side if the PS pump is cratered the PS system is already flushed and filled with new clean fluid ready for the new pump.
In any Ford older than 1995 Type F trans fluid is the correct fluid to use in the PS system. DO NOT use anything else especially with Ford PS pumps.
