Has anyone converted to a GM power steering pump on the Aerostar?
I know a bracket would have to be fabricated, but I'm not sure about the hoses; can I use the same hoses? I've got to replace the pump, it's pretty much toast. I'll need to rebuild or replace the rack, it leaks like crazy since the cold snap we had. But I hate the noisy pumps, and would seriously consider converting to a GM pump. Which GM pump should I use?
GM Pumps can be equally noisy. I know a friend with an Olds Delta 88 and it makes the same whine as my pump does. I often mistake her coming down the road as our Aero, as no other cars make that noise.
Mine's done it for 7 years, and hers has been about the same.
The new (since early 80's) generation PS pump from Ford do make noise, but that seems to be normal. Some people have found that using the old type-F fluid makes the pump quieter. I don't know what that does to the pump though.

just standard hydraulic fitting adapters avail at most auto parts stores and any hydraulics shop
I had a 1976 Granada whose steering pump slowly went out during my ownership. When it started to go, it sounded a lot like the way these newer Ford pumps sounded normally. So I find the noise just a little bit unsettling, even though I know it's normal.
Back in the 60s and 70s, almost everyone was using Saginaw gears and pumps, so it was very easy to swap between brands. (I almost went to work for them, but really I'm glad I didn't.)
