I have a new slider window in the box that came with my truck. Within the next few weeks I may get some time to change it out. Any tips for the old removal or new install? I've never changed out a window. I've seen some done on tv and does t look too bad. I've noticed they've used a rope in the weatherstrip to pull out the weatherstrip.
Use lots of lube to get rubber seal to slide easily. Put seal in the sun for few hours if its stiff. Take your time around corners, that's the hardest spot to get sealed. Good luck.
x2 on the lube the rope up really well. I used the soapy water, but I don't think I used enough soap or didn't apply enough to the seal. Coat inside the channel where the rope goes as well as the inside edge of the seal. I ended up tearing my seal a little in a couple spots. Yup, difficult on the corners. Also, use a decent sized cord. If it is too small, it tears the seal easier.
In addition to plenty of soapy water I'll add a stiff plastic putty knife can help work the seal in place. Also, used very carefully, a dull screwdriver or similar for the corners.
I have used the string trick before for conventional gaskets and tried it with the rear window. It didn't work so well for me.
I did find a helper to be very valuable to hold the window in place on the opposite side while I worked the seal into position.
Good video, I've always put the rubber on first then the glass into the rubber, I wonder if the rubber used by these trucks is opposite to the stuff I've worked with in the past.
Use nylon cordage... not cotton. The latter will tear.
Soapy water in a spray bottle.
Decide whether the seal's seam will be centered on top or centreed on the bottom.
Here is my method..... I will use window weld to adhere and seal the seal to the glass the day before I install the glass.... some don't use any sealer. You decide how you want to do it.
An extra set of hands would be invaluable.
Patience.
