I wasn't able to use my safety chains after all.
Tried Lowes, found a bigger hook, still too small.
Drove 700 miles while towing my Airstream with no safety chains.
This is ridiculous and dangerous!
Surely someone has hooks that will fit.
Anyone?

Try a commercial construction supply, heavy duty truck supply or even Tractor Supply.
Loop a short chain, maybe 6 or eight inches, through both holes and then attach both ends of that chain together with a double clevis link. Do it on each side of the hitch. Hook your chains to the loops. Ace, Lowes, Home Depot, or Tractor Supply should all have shackles, chains, and fittings and be open on a Sunday morning.

A fellow Airstreamer here.
I found these some quick links (5/8") that fit.
Some are questioning the strength of these, but...
So I tried to hook my safety chains to the truck and they don't fit. So I was thinking I was going to have to change them out on my three trailers. On my way to go search what will work I got to thinking that if I change mine out then what will happen when I pull someone else trailer. It probably won't fit either. So for me changeing out the hooks is not an option. I need to find a shackle that will work and listen to them rattle back there.

If you're running a 17' I doubt you'll hear any rattle unless you drive with your windows open. They are pretty quiet inside compared to the older model SD.
