Do I need this?

Hey guys I noticed this U shaped piece of metal bolted to the frame of my 2015 6.2 F350. It's held on by 4 nuts right under the filler neck Anyone know what it's for?

May be for some accessory that didn't get put on your model. Is anything attached to it like the support rod for the fender?

I always thought it was something to do with the DEF setup on the diesel trucks. I really don't think it serves any purpose on the gas trucks.

Thanks guys I think what fordman says maybe true. It doesn't have anything attached to it. I could remove it but I'll probably just leave it.

It's a crumple bracket protecting the tank from a side impact.
