Hello everybody. I just got a brand new f250 Lariat about a month ago. I live in south Florida so it gets really hot. I was visiting my dad in the hospital today and left the truck and more specifically the top of the dashboard in the direct sun for about 4 hours. I get back in the truck and it is the usual heat nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year. For whatever reason I was possessed to touch the top of the dash and it was sticky and tacky- alost like it was melting. I get 10 or 15 minutes down the road and the truck gets cooled off and the sticky/tacky feel goes away and it feels like normal again. Has anybody ever experienced this?
Are you sure it wasn't something that got applied to the surface? A cleaner/protectant or some such chemical? I've had my '12 down to Phoenix, AZ twice, in 2 different summers, and it was always parked outside. 115-118 degrees outside air temp, well over that temp inside the closed up cab.
Use denatured alcohol with a cloth and that will clean of whatever is on the dash. Do it in a cool place to avoid damage if the dash is melting. I use that stuff all the time on plastic with no problem. If you are concerned do a place where you cant see and test it first. Then in the future don't use anything on the dash. I just keep mine clean with a rag and water with a little denatured alcohol I think a mix of 90/10 water to alcohol.
It was a very common problem from 99-07, haven't heard much about it since the 2008 redesign of the interior. Mine was awful, so bad paper would stick to it. After a year or so it juts went away. People used to say it was the dash releasing gases, and was also the cause of the vinyl fog on the inside of the windshield.

Yep. That's why I always use a dash cover. Like Slow poke said, it gets hot in Arizona.
That's crazy how it just went away after a year. I'm hoping mine is just due to something that the dealer put on it. I'll try the denatured alcohol today and see if that helps any...
I'm on my lunch break now...I put my sun shade in my windshield except the windshield is so big the corners of the dash are still in the sun. So I just went out to the truck and the 95% of the dash not in the direct sunlight is not sticky/tacky and the remaining 5% of the dash in the sun at the corners feels slightly tacky. I have to stop at home depot on my way home anyways so I will see if they have denatured alcohol there.
