No cruise control

i recently bought a 1995 F250 with supposedly low miles. The cruise control does not work. Everything else seems to be working fine--horn, speedo, OD light, brake lights, etc. I have the shop manuals and made my way down the test procedures to A14 where I got an incorrect voltage on pin 3. The next step according to the manual is to refer to section 13-02 to service the PSOM. Problem is, my copy of the manual does not have that section. Can anyone assist?

Looking at a CD manual for a 95 F-series, not getting 4-5 volts in pinpoint test A14 refers to PSOM in section 13-01a which is titled "Instrument Cluster, Conventional."

Mine doesn't have a 13-02, either.

Thanks for referring me to Grim. I called and talked to Keith who recommended I change out the VSS. Sadly, my cruise still does not work. He told me if I sent in the PSOM and there was nothing wrong with it he'd only charge a $65 fee for testing it.

My problem seems to be with ckt 679. Do you have an EVTM with any pages on how to diagnose? Thanks.

I got my copy of the 1992-96 factory shop manual from this link...

https://drive.google.com/drive/mobil...W8?usp=sharing

I burned the file to a CD and use it from that. It does have the EVTM for the 1995 F-series, but I've never used it and am having trouble finding where that circuit diagnosis is buried.

Ok, looks like it's Section 31-4 in the EVTM.

Sorry about the poor resolution, it's the best that I could get from the manual. There are additional circuit diagrams depending on engine size. These are what the page numbers refer to in the diagram.

Try downloading that file and burn it to a CD. I think it's called a CD image file or something like that. I don't remember exactly how I got it to work (had to google it, actually) but let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help out. You can then open the manual, select and navigate the pages, etc. It's old-tech, but probably has the information that you're looking for.

EDIT: I uploaded the diagram to Supermotors, that should allow you to navigate to the image and see the original fullsize version...

it should be on the end of the master cylinder sticking straight up ?

You say you have a F250 so I will guess that you have a E4OD transmission and with it.
You say the OD light works OK.
Does this mean you do not have hard shifts?

What voltage did you get on the 679 wire when you did the below test?
Operate vehicle by raising the rear wheels. Set speed at 30 mph. Use an AC voltmeter to measure the voltage between Pin 3 (SPEED SIG, Circuit 679) and Pin 10 (GND, Circuit 901).

I am thinking your PSOM is OK and you had your meter set to DC.
The VSS on the rear end very seldom goes bad. About the only thing that goes wrong with it is it either loses magnetism or it gets broken somehow.

Subford, you're correct--I've got the E4OD tranny. I seem to have hard shifts only in certain gears--but they're not excessively hard. I haven't owned a truck in many years and I figured that was normal. Do you think the hard shifts and the fact that my cruise doesn't work are related?

Yes it would be related.
Bad information from the PSOM.

i opened up the servo to see if the motor was frozen up--everything spun fine except I noticed that the plastic gear did not engage with the metal one that pulls the actuator cable. i'm trying to figure out how to attach pics.

That's the safety release clutch. With no power or good speed info it will not engage the gear. The power is from the brake pressure switch(on brake master cylinder) I recall. Been some time since I last messed with the electronic speed control.

Pull the engine codes and see what if any are present. Probably codes set for VSS is weak. PSOM is most likely not sending out a good 8000 pulse per mile square wave to engine ECU and speed control.

On my 95 E350 bus, the speed control was the 1st thing to fail when my PSOM acted up. Then got hard shifting and finally the OD light flashing.
