That's not uncommon for the U joints with 80K to do that, especially if you live in the rust belt or go through deep water often, it doesn't matter if you have locking hubs or not. In fact if you leave your hubs unlocked and don't use 4x4 often it can cause your u-joints to seize up. I hand calculate my fuel mileage on every fill up its never made a differnce.
When I said 'dust', I literally meant dust! Those things were most likely toast at 45-50k when I bought the truck.
I used to have a picture of them, but have long since been deleted...
I found the difference in my Ford with manual locking hubs to be about 1mpg locked vs unlocked. Late model RAM are using a center axle disconnect again, but the axle joints are still turning. Clearly the use of the CAD is to try to improve fuel economy. If it didn't help, why bother?
maybe there is a 1mpg gain with cad but i dont believe thats why dodge continues with that setup. i doubt they care about 1mpg. i believe theyre determined to have a shift on the fly setup and cad is the method theyve chosen. it just so happens that a added benefit may be miniscule improvement in mpg, and thus alittle added snipit for marketing. even with no mpg inprovment, im very certain they would continue with cad. its a convenient, , maintenance free, mostly trouble free system and thats what people want
While auto hubs may offer a convenience factor, they come with their own set of negatives that manual hubs don't have. Seals in the hub, vacuum lines, electronics/solenoid, etc...all failure points that WILL need to be addressed. Maybe not in the time you might own the truck, but the second/third owner...or the guy who buys a new truck and keeps it forever. If the convenience factor is worth the future maintenance/repairs...then by all means, go for the auto hubs. For some of us, it is not. Also, even with auto hubs, it is a good idea to lock your hubs in once a month to exercise the hubs and U-joints.
And thanks to my dealer's screw-up, I have the Warn manual hubs in my Amazon shopping cart waiting for a price drop notification from CamelCamelCamel....
I was thinking very much like you and absolutely wanted the MSOS 4WD. After driving a few trucks, I think the console won, and I'll get an ESOF. Like you, I'll have a set of hubs ready for the eventual vacuum leak. Gotta love CamelCamelCamel

No need for a picture, I believe you, I have changed dozens like that, on driveshafts and axleshafts. My brothers truck had a rear driveshaft u joint get so bad it vibrated enough to crack the tail housing on the transmission.
i never said it was identical to ram. but i wouldnt be a bit suprised if its a very similar version. shouldnt be difficult to find the answer if a person wanted to
havent heard anything about ram transfer case dropping like flys. a couple out of hundreds of thousands failed and that meens theyre dropping like flys ? got any links to you claims ?
theres 300pages here of '17+ superduties with every concievable problem you can imagine, and even some problems you would never think could happen. rampant death wobble on alot of these trucks, despite so many ford fan bois talking crap about ram... LOL. numerous rear axles failing in a ver short time
but dont take my word for it. just browse through the last 300pages. all kinds of problems
I just find out so hard to believe you can knock fords when what you have is the worst piece of crap ever built.

I have 315000 miles on the original joints in the front Dana 60. They've seen 3 foot snows and been buried in mud.
In fact all the u joints on the truck are original. 2006 f250.
Ford actually gives you a grease zerk and locking hubs. Essentially ujoints will last forever if you grease them periodically.

I agree that it Does look like a Borg Warner to me also. I was Glad to see it.
I'll take the BW over the NV any day.
I did a search on the part number but couldn't find any information on it.
I saw your post about the ratio being slightly taller now at 2.64 vs 2.7..
Where did you see that ?
This is the part number that is on my 19 Dually. HC34-7A195-AH
