Hey guys recently ordered a 2017 6.7 XLT FX4 SRW and I am completely new to the forum. My question is if anyone was able to order their truck with a manual transfer case. My dealer told me I couldn't however the shift on the fly option wasn't listed in my invoice. I'm really hoping it shows up with a manual lever.
I think I would really miss the rubber boot around the transfer case shifter especially after the first time I removed it to lubricate the shift linkage which had frozen up over the summer and then the little bent tabs holding it down would pop off in 10 degree weather and the slush and cold would blast up through the floorboards.
But I would enjoy having a full manual (Transfer case and transmission) again, for a little while or as a recreational work truck. And please tell me Ford couldn't do a better job with that cup holder. Looks like JC Whitney or Dollar General. Sorry to the owner of this new truck for degrading this accessory but it is not impressive and looks very user un-friendly.
The cup holders are for a purpose. Any style added to them would look silly to me. This is a heavy duty truck. Cup holder style should not be a consideration. Besides, they flip around out if sight when not needed. For cup holders, I want durability and drink holding. Mission accomplished. Now, if you ever have seen the mini console, that is JCWhitney!

The last half million miles I've put on the older model NV271's never involved any trouble with the shift linkage binding up or getting stuck. I don't think any of the other trucks at work had any trouble either. Hopefully the new transfer case holds up as well as the old one did.

Try spraying the linkage with a mixture of salt, sand, grime and water everyday for 3 months, then repeat next year, then repeat the next year. You will find lots about a truck that you will not ever experience in Texas. The NP 205 transfer case had two rails with indents on them on the top of the transfer case where the lever slid between them and stopped in the detents. They would seize up after a few years and the transfer case could not be shifted by even the strongest without cleaning and lubricating.
When getting the manual floor shift transfer case and the FX4 package on top of that, does anyone know where they put the button for the electronic locking rear diff? I can't find a pics of a 2017+ super duty with MSOS and FX4. The non-FX4 has a coin holder where the ESOF **** would be.

I believe if you order a SRW with the FX4 and MSOS, you will have an electronic locking differential rotary switch where the ESOF switch would have been.
Driver side transmission, at top of pic is the bottom of the interior transfer case shifter.
This is the end of the shifter-cable to the HI/LO shift fork.
Manual transfer case. Note the round hole with casting un-drilled holes at the 12...4...7 O'clock positions. That is where the ESOF elec. shift motor is bolted.
The new 17' and newer trucks don't have a traditional linkage for the manual transfer case option. Instead they use a Morse style push/pull cable, similar to an auto trans shifter cable or a boat and or GA aircraft throttle cable. There's nothing to lubricate as the cable is sealed. Here are some pics of my 17 F-350 6.7 with manual transfer case shifter.
