I'm 100% with the new guy on this one.
I was hoping for a more tactful and useful response such as.....
"No there really are no more useful tests you can do externally to help point you to the internal problem. Once you do get it out be mindful of part A, part B and part C. These are what commonly gives up out of the blue with no warning, bang, or otherwise audible or physical indication of failure. Check to be sure the front pump is spinning and watch out for the seal in this location."
That would have been much more helpful, and well... grown up response. You know, the kind of help I have gotten in the past from folks here.
I am not a martyr nor do I care to be one. i don't expect to be handled with kid gloves either. However i expect to be treated as an adult and not talked down too like some child begging for candy. You are supposedly the guy who knows what he is talking about. I didn't ask you to come over and fix my trans for me. I asked for some knowledge, and maybe some lessons learned from your experience, but you gave me your high and mighty attitude instead. Quite frankly I am just not going to put up with that. If you don't like my assessment of your response then... well to borrow a quote form you.... sorry too bad.
I'm severely handicapped and will still get this transmission out. I never once asked for a quick fix nor would I expect one. I live my life by my strength and intestinal fortitude. if you had read my post, what I was asking for were trouble shooting procedures and tests as to figure out exactly what could be broken inside. I am not a transmission expert nor can we afford to take it to one. I rebuilt a C-6 once when i was a teenager. yeah it worked when i was done. That was over 20 years ago. I know nothing of these modern generations of transmissions. In 1997 i was certified auto body tech and mechanic, now I am just a busted old Infantryman. I am not a kid, nor am I new to this game.
i am not crapping on mark. i crapped on his extremely careless, and absolutely crass response. I was hoping to get some meaningful information when i shook the proverbial mechanic shade tree..... unfortunately the only thing that fell out was a couple of nuts.
Lets shake hands and call it a day on that....
In all seriousness.
I am departing tomorrow for Detroit to get the transmission out of the van. I am hoping it is something as simple as changing the torque converter. Have a line on several used transmissions with warranties in the metro area at reasonable prices. So worst case scenario this wont be too expensive.
Does anyone know of any good reputable transmission repair shops in Metro Detroit? Would like to bounce the cost of a used replacement VS repairing the one we have.

got the trans out of the van....
Spinning the torque converter on the ground sounded like i put a quarter in an old gumball machine and twisted it over.
Found a good used trans from Midwest Auto truck and Spring off Belleville road in Canton. Nice folks to deal with and give a 90 day warranty on all used parts. Been there since the 70's.
anyhoo.... new trans went in with absolutely no hiccups.... filled the fluid and we are officially back on the road....
