Heat shield insulation suggestion for transmission tunnel and doghouse

I just pulled my E4OD today for some updates and a new Torque Converter.

Every time I work around the engine I absolutely hate it because the fiberglass like mat material gets all over my arms and is itchy and irritating as hell for a few days afterwards

Since I've got the transmission out, i'd like to rip out the old crap and put something a little less irritating in. Has anyone done this and do you have any suggestions on a material?

Check the local Lowe's, Home Depot...etc... in the insulation isles they have that type of stuff. Not so sure how well the bubble wrap inside will hold up to engine heat though. Was thinking of doing some of my truck with it too. Auto supplies have some that has a glue backing side, so it just sticks to whatever surface you put it to.

Do not use Reflectix on your doghouse cover or engine tunnel! It might be fine for transmission tunnel but it doesn't block noise well. The plastic inside could melt or pop when heated. The idea of aluminum face is the right idea though. I used Peel and Seal with thick aluminum face applied directly to tunnel and firewall to block heat and sound. Then use Thermo-Tec over that. Here you go:

Hope that helps!

this months trailer life or motorhome had a question on this topic and I forget their reply, but there is a material they recommended and that it also be put under the carpet of the vehicle. Take a look see and maybe its what you want.

Thanks for the replies all, this is what I ended up buying along with some high temp spray glue to attach it. Its kind a combination of a reflectix with a high temp felt material.

Should be here in a couple days to install.
